Mr. Alvin McDaniel, 86, retired from Bell Systems, passed away Saturday, June 20, 2009 at Orange Park Medical Center. Funeral Services were held on Thursday, June 25 at Memphis Funeral Home, Germantown Parkway Chapel. He was a WWII veteran, a Jack Daniel Country Squire, a member of Bellsouth Pioneers, a loving grandfather and great grandfather. He was preceded in death by his wife, Velma McDaniel; and great grandson, John Robert Alvin Vaughn. JOB JORGE TRAVASSOS “SUNSHINE”
Funeral services for Job Jorge Travassos "Sunshine", 91, will be held from the graveside Friday, June 26 in Penney Farms Memorial Cemetery, with Mr. Manuel Travassos, his nephew, officiating. He was born in Middleboro, Mass. He was in the produce business for over fifty years, and was the last member of the Travassos family of Penney Farms. He was preceeded in death by his wife of 53 years, Rebecca Leola Travassos; who passed away in 1994, and his daughter Margaret Colgan who passed away in 1998. He is survived by his children, Job J. Travassos, Jr. (Sandi); Debbie Kennedy (Stan); Frank Mauricio Travassos (Doris); son in law, Larry Colgan; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren. MERILYN HOWARD ELSNER
Mrs. Merilyn Howard Elsner, 82, of Orange Park, Fla., passed away Sunday, May 17, 2009. Born in Bryceville, Fla., on July 22, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Vernie James and Mary Leona Bryce Howard. She was married 58 years to William “Bill” Elsner. Together they owned and operated Elsner’s Photography and Framing where she specialized in the restoration of fine art. She is survived by her husband, William Elsner; sister, Sharon (Clayton) Hill; nieces, Allison (Mike) Pilliod and Wlisabeth (Marty) Bost; great nephews, Bryce and Andrew Pilliod and Charlie Bost. She added love and beauty to everything she touched from her work as an artist, to her home and garden to her relationships with family, friends, and customers. She was forever the gracious hostess and always put others needs before her own. The family would like to extend its appreciation to the staff of The Clay County on Aging, Life Care, and Orange Park Hospital for there care and support. A memorial service was held Saturday, May 30 at the Pinewood Presbyterian Church.
ALLEN SEABRIAN JONES
Mr. Allen Seabrian Jones, 51 a longtime resident of the Gainesville and Melrose area died at his residence on Tuesday, June 23, 2009. He was born on February 8, 1958, in Pensacola, Fla., to Ralph T. and Rosemaire (Costa) Jones. He was employed as a Counselor for the North Florida Treatment Center in Gainesville and was an avid gator fan. He is survived by father Ralph T. Jones of Melrose, his sister, Annmarie Dombrowski of Jupiter, Fla.; and one niece. A memorial service was held on Friday, June 26 in the Visitation Center at the North Florida Evaluation and Treatment Center in Gainesville. Mrs. Sarah Ann Hallowell, 69, of Melrose passed away at her home on Wednesday, June 24, 2009. She had lived most of her life in Palatka and moved to Melrose 25 years ago. She was born on Dec. 9, 1939, in Waycross, Ga. She was a homemaker and also an Auxiliary member and past president of the Am Vets Post #86 in Keystone Heights. Her survivors include her children, Joyce Cordell; and Wendell (Angie) Lingerfelt all of Melrose; siblings, Charles Gale (Anita); Jimmy Gale (Wonnie); Bob Gale (Pam); Mike Gale; Susie Stephens (Ronnie); Melba Holliday; grandchildren, Sarah Wilkinson, Veronica Barton (Bryan); Kent Wilkinson; Rachel Lingerfelt; great grandchildren, Jayden Goodman and Jordan Barton, many nieces and nephews. Ms. Bobbie Ann Bloys-Stratten, 57, passed away in an untimely manner due to an accident on June 19, 2009. She was a loving and giving woman who will be deeply missed and mourned by family and friends. She was a caregiver in Orange Park and Green Cove Springs for 30 years. She was preceded in death by her mother, Ms. Virginia O’Berry; brother, James Bloys and grandson, Nathaniel Stratten. She leaves to mourn her death a brother, Lee Bloys; adopted daughter, Ashley Blitchington; adopted sister, Lisa Moore; husband, Douglas Stratten; daughters, Virginia Roberts Pierce (Cary), Jennifer and Carol Stratten and one son, Daniel Stratten. She was a great mother and grandmother to grandchildren, Rakeem Wright, Nicholas, Alex, Anthony, Arron Asher (Jeremy) and Jeremiah Hyatt; Hatley; Gaden; and Peyton Blitchington. Mrs. Monique Hamilton, 71, of Orange Park, Fla., passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2009. She was born on March 13, 1938, in St. Dizier, France and had lived in the local area for 29 years. Mr. William “Bill” Miller, 81, of Orange Park, Fla., passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2009. He was born on May 25, 1928, to David and Anna Miller in Ovid, NY. He worked as a general laborer for the City of Canandaigua in New York. He served his country honorably in The United States Army. He came to Moosehaven on January 17, 1996, where he resided for 13 years. A Memorial Service was held Wednesday, July 1 at the Moosehaven Chapel with inurnment in Moosehaven Mausoleum. Services conducted by the Rev. Helen Taylor and Officers of Opportunity Lodge. Military honors were conferred at the service. Mr. Warren Douglas Crisp, 63, of Jacksonville, Fla., passed away Monday, June 22, 2009. He was born on November 22, 1945, in Franklin, NC to William and Leila Crisp. He served his country in the United States Navy and worked as a baggage handler for Continental Airlines. He will be dearly missed by his loving family and friends. Ms. Geraldine Hartley Lowe, 69, a lifelong resident of Jacksonville passed away Monday, June 29, 2009, at Acosta-Rua Community Hospice. She was born on November 30, 1939, to the late Claude and Pauline (Griffis) Hartley. She was raised Baptist and was a homemaker. She is survived by her sons and their wives, Tommy (Kay) Lowe of Starke; Timmy (Debbie) Lowe of Bryceville; and Donald Lowe of Jacksonville; siblings, Gary; David; Larry; Sharon; Susan; and Ann; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Mrs. Diane Kilner, 66, of Fleming Island, Fla., passed away Saturday, June 6, 2009, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on July 10, 1942, in Glendale, Calif., to A.R. and Ruth Gist. She moved to the local area 41 years ago and had been a real estate broker for over 30 years. She was a Past-President of the Clay County Board of Realtors and Treasurer of the Orange Park Women’s Club. She was a sales and marketing director for many private builders as well as an entrepreneur who started many cosmetic and jewelry businesses. She was of the Christian faith and will be dearly missed by her loving family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her husband of 41 years, Ed Kilner; children, Jim Holder (Mia); Kim Holder (Donnie) and Kelly Brannigan (Jason); grandchildren, James; Addison; Preston and Alec and special friend, Jane Hines. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, July 10 in the Broadus-Raines chapel. Services will be conducted by Cynthia Montello.
