Mr. Alexander Chesser, Jr. age 71, passed away Sunday December 20, 2009. He was born in Palatka, Fla. He was an U.S. Army veteran. Graveside service was held Wednesday, December 23 in Hickory Grove Cemetery, Green Cove Springs, Fla., with Bishop David Pannell officiating. Mr. Cesar T. Payad “Papa”, 69, of Fleming Island, Fla., passed away on Monday, December 21, 2009. He was born on November 28, 1940, to Isidro and Felicidad Payad in Silang Cavite, Philippines. At the age of 22, he came to this country and joined the United States Navy and retired after 20 years of honorable service. He achieved the American Dream. He became a successful real estate entrepreneur. He always said “That he would build a dynasty and leave his legacy.” He will always be remembered as a loving husband, caring father and proud papa. In his spare time he enjoyed playing with his grandchildren and cooking family feasts. He is a faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years Felicitas Payad; son, Francis Payad; daughters, Jennifer Wright (Clifford), Annabelle Ramirez (Allan) and Melissa Monje (Jowell); loving niece, Jackie Thompson (Rick); sisters, Asuncion, Aurora, Felice, and Lilia; grandchildren, Alexandria, Gabriel, Asaiah, Gianna, Alijah, Aaron, Jacob, Noah and Caleb; grandnephew, Matthew. Vigil/Rosary service was held Tuesday, December 29 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Fleming Island, Fla. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Wednesday, December 30 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, presided by Father Donal Sullivan. Mrs. Ruby Donette Gray, 56, of Middleburg, Fla., passed away Wednesday, December 23, 2009. She was born on June 14, 1953, in Jacksonville to William and Mary Roberts. Mrs. Vera M. Willis, 80, of Orange Park, passed away Sunday December 20, 2009 at the Orange Park Medical Center. She was born in Neelyville, Mo., and had been a resident of Orange Park for the past 46 years coming from Mayport. She was a retired respiratory therapist having worked at the former Clay Memorial Hospital in Green Cove Springs. She attended the Calvary Baptist Church in Middleburg and was a member of the Ridgewood Baptist Church. She enjoyed attending church, crocheting, reading and playing cards. Surviving are a son, Clyde Willis; a daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Van Davenport all of Orange Park; a brother, Edward Malone of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; a sister, Betty Malone of California; four grandchildren, Roger Willis, Cheyenne Jackson, Richard Willis and Paul Jimmison; and four great-grandchildren, Elijah Jimmison, Amber Willis, Richard Willis and Ty Jackson. Funeral services were held Saturday December 26 at Masters Funeral Home of Palatka with Pastor Ken Pledger officiating. Interment followed in the Pine Lawn Cemetery. Mrs. Carolyn J. Clark, 59 continued into the next chapter of her life on Tuesday December 22, 2009. She continues this journey leaving behind her loving husband of 35 years, Rex A. Clark, her two adoring children, Michael V. Clark and Deanna L. Clark, her three grandchildren, Nolan McCormick, Mia Clark, and Dillon McCormick. She was a beacon of light in the darkest of skies. She touched everybody’s lives with her warming smile and gentle touch. Whoever met her knew their life was better because of it. She was a pillar of hope and strength and a well of knowledge whose love and kindness had no boundaries. She joins God’s side as an angel of mercy and inspiration. The world and everyone that knew her will feel her love that she gave until the end of time. She will be forever missed, but not forgotten. Mrs. Cora Lee Rivero Partington passed away Friday, December 25, 2009, in Panama City, Fla., at The Community Health and Rehabilitation center. She lived most of her life in Miami where she graduated from Miami-Edison High School and was a member of the famed "Over-the-Hill" gang. She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed music of all types. Her spirit was contagious and she was loved by all. She was pre-deceased by her husband of 54 years, William Partington and her youngest Sister Minnie Sapp. She is survived by her daughters Frances (Gary) Whitfield; Katherine (Dwayne) Spencer and son George (Kay) Partington; 3 Grandchildren; 4 step Grandsons; 4 great Grandchildren; 3 sisters: Betty (Henry) Bridges; Fay Brown and Mary (Frank) Scharff; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mr. Charles William Criswell, 75, passed away on Monday, December 14, 2009 in Orange Park with his family by his side. He was born on April 10, 1934 to William Sterling Criswell and Alma Virginia Linton of Martinsburg, West Virginia. He graduated from Martinsburg High School class of 1952. He joined the US Navy in 1953 and proudly served our country during the Korean Conflict and was later stationed at Cecil Field. He resided in Jacksonville and attended FCCJ and Jacksonville University for three years and his last two were at Jones College. He worked for NAS Jax., public works dept., and southeast Regional Naval Hospital for over 46 years and 4 years with the navy for a combined service of over 50 years with the federal government. He worked with contractors and ws a member of the IBEW local #155. He resided in Lake Asbury for 35 years and moved to Orange Park when he became ill. He was predeceased by parents, several aunts and uncles, former wife Patty Lou Criswell. He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Barbara Mulligan Criswell; son, John Sterling Criswell (Tammy); step father, Rex Rinker; sister in law, Nancy Lane; step children, Lee Ann Standish; Susan J. Mulligan; Michael E. Mulligan; Patricia A Knight Brown; and John Daniel Knight; grandchildren, John Sterling Criswell, Jr.; Nicholas Criswell; Dalton Criswell; Amber Mulligan Weighhill (Kerry) and Patrick Michael Mulligan; two great grandchildren and many other loving family members and friends. He touched many lives and will be greatly missed. Funeral Services were held on Saturday, December 19 in the chapel of Jacksonville Memory Gardens Funeral Home. Mrs. Sherry Lynn Garman, 41, passed away quietly Thursday morning at her residence. She was a native of Baltimore, Md., and had lived in the Jacksonville area for many years where she graduated from Ed White High School. She was a member of the Church of Sun Coast and will be remembered for her love for family, life and the joy of vacations with those she loved. She is survived by her husband Scott Garman, daughter Rachel Garman; two sons, William Boyd, III and Mathew Garman; sister, Stacy Stevenson; her parents, Raymond Warren and Sue Warren; father and mother-in-law Ellis and Beatrice Garman; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Monday in the Russell Baptist Church. Pastor Mike Gaylor officiated. Burial was in Russell Haven of Rest Cemetery. Mrs. Arvonia May Ennis, 87 of Keystone Heights passed away at her home on Thursday December 24, 2009. She was born in Peekskill, NY on February 20, 1922 to the late Stephen and Viola (Shaw) Mathews. In 1987, she had moved to Keystone Heights from Tamarac, Fla., and attended the St. Anne’s Episcopal Church and was a homemaker. She is survived by her children, Arvonia Glenn, Maureen Burch, and William S. Ennis; seven grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
