ORANGE PARK – Two Argyle men involved in a relationship with the same woman are dead in what investigators believe was a murder-suicide, the third in Clay County in recent months sparked by domestic issues.
The incident began about 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, when Clay County sheriff’s deputies were called to 448 Summit Drive where they found Robert Williams, 49, dead of a gunshot wound, the Sheriff’s Office said in a release.
The shooting suspect, 40-year-old Gregory Hood, drove back to his home at 1411 Heather Glen Lane after the shooting. When deputies arrived at Hood’s home and searched they found Hood dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Detectives believe Williams was targeted after Hood discovered his wife, Kimberly, was dating Williams. The Hoods were in the process of getting a divorce, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The Sheriff’s Office said detectives are still in the process of finalizing the incident.
This is Clay County’s third murder-suicide in the past four months, all three involving situations where couples were having marital problems. In November a Fleming Island father shot his two children and then himself, and in January a Middleburg man shot his adult daughter and then himself.
