JACKSONVILLE -- A Middleburg man was killed Tuesday, Feb. 16, when his car slammed into the back of a tow truck on Southside Boulevard.
Emmanuel Ayala Martinez, 25, was southbound on Southside Boulevard and traveling at a high rate of speed about 11:50 p.m. when his 2000 BMW hit the southbound tow truck, the Florida HIghway Patrol said. Martinez, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from his vehicle on impact and was pronounced dead at the scene, the Highway Patrol said.
The tow truck driver, Chad Lee Simmons, 35, of Jacksonville suffered minor injuries. he impact also caused $15,000 damage to the town truck, the Highway Patrol said.
