Special to Clay Today
GREEN COVE SPRING – Keep Clay Beautiful is one of 15 Keep American Beautiful affiliates to receive $5,000 this year from Waste Management.
The company was expected to make a check presentation at the Tuesday, March 9, Clay County Commission meeting, according to a news release.
“Waste Management Great American Showcase Awards are made available to selected communities where Waste Management wants to help improve the community in a special way,” said Amy Boyson, Waste Management community affairs manager. “Keep Clay Beautiful does so many great things for our community and it is important they are recognized for keeping our community beautiful.”
The Great American Cleanup is the nation’s largest annual community improvement event, takes place annually from March 1 through May 31.
Tania Jolley, Keep Clay Beautiful executive director, said the organization was honored by the award.
“I am excited to have this opportunity to work with Waste Management on our showcase events, the St. Johns River Celebration and assisting the Clay County Fair with their goal of “Going Green,” Jolley said.
Last year 675 volunteers collected 15.62 tons of garbage at the St. Johns River Cleanup, which is part of the Great American Cleanup. This year’s cleanup will take place from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 20.
Volunteers are asked to contribute a canned good(s) for the Green Cove Springs Food Pantry and a new or used book(s) for Clay County Women for Education.
