MARTY “SARGE” MATTSON

Mr. Marty “Sarge” Mattson, 72, of Fleming Island, Fla., passed away on Thursday, July 1, 2010.  He was born on September 18, 1937, in Duluth, Minn., to Martin and Bolette Mattson. He honorably served his country honorably in the U.S. Army and retired after 27 years of service as a Master Sergeant E8. He moved to the local area in 1991 from San Antonio, TX.  He was a member of the VFW in Bay Springs, Mich., and Sons of Norway.  He was a man known to always have the last word.  His family will tell that he could be very stubborn.  He will be remembered as a loving father and grampy.  He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Diane Leslie Mattson (2009) and is survived by his daughters, Kristin Mattson; Karin Mattson and Lynne (Bill) Duffield; grandchildren, Joshua; Jeremiah; Kera; Breanne; Catherine; Emma and Audrey and great grandchildren, Jaden and Gavin is on the way.  Funeral service was held Thursday, July 8 at Memorial Lutheran Church, 3375 US 1 South, St. Augustine, Fla., 32086 with the Rev. Dr. Kerry G. Hinkley officiating.  Military honors were conferred at the church. JAMES JUNIOR RUMBLE

Mr. James Junior Rumble, 84, of Carsonville, Mich., passed away Wednesday, July 7, 2010.  He was born on February 19, 1926 in Carsonville, Mich., to James and Iva Rumble.  He honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was of the Methodist faith and a member of United Methodist Church in Carsonville, Mich. He and his late wife were “snowbirds” who traveled from Carsonville, Mich., to Bartow, Fla., every six months.  He was a member of the Masonic Temple in Carsonville, Mich., and the Lions Club in Marlette, Mich.  He was known to be an avid poker player, where he played at the Good Life RV Park in Bartow.  He will always be remembered as a loving dad, grandfather and great grandfather.  He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Betty Lou Rumble and is survived by his daughter, Cheryl (Noel) Starnes; sister, Joyce (Lee) Warschefsky; grandchildren, Cheree (Jeff) Deese and Jessica Starnes; great grandchildren Abigail Paige Deese; his best friend, George and many nieces and nephews.  Please sign the family's online guestbook at www.broadusraines.com.   Cremation arrangements by Broadus-Raines Funeral Home, 501 Spring Street, Green Cove Springs, Fla., 32043 (904) 284-4000.

 DONNA MARIE

Mrs. Donna Marie Carncross, 95, of Orange Park, Fla., passed away Tuesday, July 6, 2010.  She was born June 10, 1915, in Fairfield, Iowa to Louis A. and Merta Pequignot. She has lived in the Orange Park area for the last 26 years.  She had worked as a manager in the motel and advertising business. She was an avid watcher of all the news and media channels especially ones about politics. Her family said if you ever needed to know what was going on in the world, all you would have to do is ask her. She cared for and loved all kinds of animals but her favorite was cats. She truly loved her time spent with her daughter and grandsons. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Carncross, her parents and her brother, Lewis Pequignot. She will be deeply missed by her loving family and friends.  She is survived by her daughter, Donna K. Walker; grandsons, Norman Walker and Wesley Walker (Jamie); sister, Shirley Heston (Emil).  A graveside service was held on Friday, July 9 at the Penney Farms Cemetery with Bro.  LOUISA PICKARD

Louisa Mayo Palmore Pickard, 85, of Penney Farms, Florida, died July 7, 2010 at Penney Retirement Community at Penney Farms.

She was born November 14, 1924, in Kobe, Japan, the daughter of Rev. Peyton Lee Palmore, II and Florence Eugenia McAlpine Palmore.  She was the second of 5 siblings:  Jeannie Palmore Nelson of Palo Alto, California; Peyton Lee Palmore, III of Arlington, Virginia; Erdman Ballagh Palmore of Chapel Hill, North Carolina; Mary Helen Palmore of Willard, Utah (deceased).  After receiving a Bachelors Degree in Music from Westminster Choir College of Princeton, New Jersey, and a Masters Degree in Sacred Music from Scarritt College for Christian Workers in Nashville, Tennessee, Louisa was married June 12, 1948 to Raleigh Henry Pickard of Montgomery, Alabama.  Together they served in India as Medical/Musical missionaries for 32 years. In India she was involved in the founding of an elementary school of which she also served as occasional principal.  Besides her mission duties during that time, Louisa gave vocal concerts in the major cities of India, using her beautiful, trained, soprano voice.  Upon retirement, Louisa and Raleigh made their home at Penney Retirement Community, where they were very active as volunteers in various aspects of life in the community.  They founded the Sunday afternoon worship services at the Hagen Care Center.  Louisa is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jeanna and David Shade, of Toledo, Ohio; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Brant Hays of Colonial Beach, Virginia; son and daughter-in-law, Keene and Kim Pickard of Midlothian, Virginia; son and daughter-in-law, Alfred and Bonni-Belle Pickard of Surbiton, England; son, Raleigh H. Pickard, Jr. of Alachua, Florida.  She is also survived by her grandchildren:  Lauren Hester, Amanda Hardie, Richard Henry, Andrew Shade, Nathan Hays, Bethany Hays Bojorquez, Raleigh Pickard, Benjamin Pickard, Laura Pickard, John Pickard, Thomas Pickard.  She also has five great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Raleigh Henry Pickard, and her sister, Mary Helen Palmore.  A memorial service will be held at Penney Retirement Community in August.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Hagen Care Center at Penney Retirement Community, Penney Farms, Florida. GINA L. FRAZEE

Mrs. Gina L. Frazee, 50 of Keystone Heights, Fla., passed away Wednesday, July 7, 2010, after an extended illness.  She was a distinguished educator serving high school students as a business and technology teacher in Bradford and Clay Counties for 23 years. She will be missed by the many students whose lives she touched in a meaningful way. She is survived by her husband of 28 years Randy Frazee, son, Colton 21, daughter, Morgann 14, all of Keystone Heights, parents, Millard Brown and Applean Reynolds Brown of Starke, brother, Terence Brown of Earlton, and twin sister, Tina McRae of Kingsley Lake. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, Starke.  A celebration of her life was held on Tuesday, July 13 at the First United Methodist Church Starke.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the First United Methodist Starke Youth Department, Hospice, or the American Cancer Society. ERIC CHRISTOPHER HUGHLETT

Mr. Eric Christopher Hughlett passed away Friday, July 9, 2010 at home with his family at his side.  He retired with 20 years of service in the U.S. Navy as a Supply Corps Officer.  Following his service, he worked as an IT and logistics consultant.  He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Pam; his son, Benjamin; his daughter, Amanda; his sister, Phyllis Charles; four brothers, Peter, Stephen, Gregory, and Brian Hughlett; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws; and his two dogs, Zoe and Milo; all whom he loved very much.  He was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and greatly enjoyed his participation with the men’s CRHP group.    A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 17 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Fleming Island with Fr. Donal Sullivan and Fr. DANIEL MCCULLOCH PATER, JR.

Mr. Daniel McCulloch Pater, Jr.  90, of Keystone Heights passed away Sunday, July 11, 2010 following an extended illness. He was born in New York City, NY on September 18, 1919 and had served as Commander in the U.S. Maritime during WWII.  Prior to retirement, he worked for E.I. DuPont.   He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Mary Pater. Survivors include his children, Margaret Whitaker, Daniel M. Pater, III, and Robert C. Pater, a sister Betty Blum, two grandchildren and one great grandchild.    Viewing will be held on Thursday, July 15 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.  Funeral services will be on Friday, July 16 at 10 a.m. in the Jones-Gallagher Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Steve Conner officiating.  Burial will follow at the Keystone Heights Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers the family is asking for contributions to be made to the Hospice of your choice. ELIZABETH JEAN STOLZFUS

Mrs. Elizabeth Jean Stoltzfus a resident of Park of the Palms in Keystone Heights for the past 30 years passed away on Sunday July 11, 2010 at the age of 89. She was born in Union City, Indiana on February 1, 1921. She was an active member in Trinity Baptist Church. She is survived by her three sons, Dale of Plano, TX; Dean of Powder Springs, Ga.; and Lee of Monrovia, Calif.; as well as four grandchildren, Andrew, Matthew, Daniel, and Jenna. CAROL HOSMER MILLER

Mrs. Carol Hosmer Miller, 65, of St. Augustine, Fla., passed away Saturday, July 10, 2010.  She was born on September 21, 1944 in Niagara Falls, NY to John and Mary Hosmer.  She had been an office manager for Swanson Fire Protection and was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Green Cove Springs.  She enjoyed gardening, knitting, boat rides and being with her grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by her loving family and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents and by her brothers, Bruce and John Hosmer.  She is survived by her daughter, Terrie Z. (John P.) Swanson; brother, Craig (Daryl) Hosmer and grandchildren, Lauren and Lucas Swanson.  A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 16 at First Presbyterian Church of Green Cove Springs with the Rev. Dr. W.
