NEVIN C. MAYER

Mr. Nevin C. Mayer, 80, of Green Cove Springs, Fla., passed away Tuesday July 13, 2010.  He was born on August 11, 1929, in Apple Creek, Ohio to Dr. Nevin and Mable Mayer.  He was a Korean War Veteran, serving his country in the U.S. Army.  He had been an Independent Dealer of Mayer Sohio Service Station in East Cleveland, Ohio and moved to the local area in 1997.  He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Fleming Island and enjoyed boating, yard work, reading and studying about the Civil War as well as traveling to Civil War historic sites.  He was a volunteer for the Food Pantry of Green Cove Springs and will be dearly missed by his loving family and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife, Gloria DeJovine Mayer; children, Nevin Joseph Mayer of Cleveland, Ohio, Richard Michael Mayer of Jacksonville and Joan Marie Mayer of Jacksonville and his brother, David Paul Mayer of Chicago, Ill.  A Memorial Mass was celebrated Tuesday, July 20 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Fr. Donal Sullivan as Celebrant.  Inurnment with military honors will take place at Jacksonville National Cemetery at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be made to Community Hospice of NE Florida, 4266 Sunbeam Rd., Jacksonville, Fla., 32257 and/or Food Pantry of Green Cove Springs, 1107 Martin Luther King Junior Blvd.

RICHARD WAYNE LONG

Mr. Richard Wayne Long, 38, passed away in Clay County, Fla.    He was born in Germany and had lived in Clay County for many years.  He served in the U.S. Army and was a Heating and Air Conditioning Technician.  He is survived by his parents, Judith and James Long, four sons, James, Kevin, Mitchell and Tristen, two brothers, William and Franklin McChesney, sister, Cara Goodin and four nieces and nephews.  Funeral services were private.  Holly Hill Funeral Home, 3601 Old Jennings Rd. LEN BROWN

Mr. Len Brown, 40, passed away Tuesday, July 14, 2010.  He was born on December 13, 1969, in Jacksonville, Fla., to Lenville and Brenda Brown, Sr.  He was a carpenter and an electrician.  He will be dearly missed by his loving family and friends.  He was preceded in death by his mother Brenda and is survived by his father, Lenville B. Brown, Sr.; sisters, Brenda (Rusty) Walters and Tammy Gee; nieces and nephews, Ashley and Jesse Walters, Angel Brown, Taylor Gee and Victoria Reed.  Funeral services were held Monday, July 19 at Black Pond Baptist Church with the Rev. ADAM THOMAS BEAL

Mr. Adam Thomas Beal, 28, of Middleburg, Fla., passed away Tuesday, July 13, 2010.  He was born January 29, 1982 in St. Vincent’s Hospital. He was preceded in death by his mother Leah Elaine Beal.  Survivors include his wife, Ashley, her daughter, Kayleigh, his daughter, Ava Leah Beal, mother, Andrea Lavoie, father, William Timothy Beal and wife, Helen, brothers Brian Beal (Sarah), Aaron Beal, sister, Lori Smith (Tony), of Jakin, Ga.  Funeral services were held Monday July 19 in the Chapel of Hardage-Giddens Rivermead Funeral Home, 127 Blanding Blvd. Orange Park, Fla., 32073, with Pastor Dale Kitchens officiating.  Interment will be in Peoria Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Buddy Meenks, Justin Hodges, James William, Jeff Yost, Earl and Nelson Prescott, honorary bearers are Jody Beal and Terry Crews.  Join us in sharing his life at www.mem.com

GUSTAV F. MOHRENNE (GUS)

Mr. Gustav F. Mohrenne (Gus) lost his short battle with cancer on Saturday, July 10, 2010. He fought gallantly to the end, with his beloved wife, Sue by his side he slipped silently away to be with the angels. He was born on March 5, 1927, to Gustav and Frances Mohrenne in Jamica, NY. He was a loving husband and devoted father to his son, Jerry (Hui-Sook) and daughter, Ann (George) Kleckner; also survived by his adoring sisters, Carol Dowdeswell of Lakewood, Colo., and Lois (Bill) St. George of Long Island, NY; a grandson, two great granddaughters and one great grandson. He served his country in the U.S. Navy and was a WWII veteran. After honorably serving his country he began working for Liberty Republic Air Craft in New York and later moved to Florida.  Joining on with Pratt Whitney in Palm Beach, Fla. Later relocating to Hobsound, Fla., working as a Tooler at Gruman in Stewart, Florida; where he retired many years later. After retirement he chose St. Augustine as his home for a few years. Later he and his wife, Sue, moved to Middleburg. He was an active member of VFW Post 8255; the MOC; Past District Commander of MOC; Past Commander of the Supreme MOC; and member of the local American Legion. He always felt honored to represent his fellow members when he traveled to Washington, D.C. to participate in Tomb Tracks. His volunteering took him too many places and many wonderful works for the disabled veterans, orphans of veterans. His hobbies included his vast collections of scale Models of almost all WWII air craft and ships which after many hours of tedious hours of work recreating each one; he displayed proudly in his home. He had a passion for western movies and his library/media room where proof to this. He also loved to dance and was always ready to spin around the dance floor. His love for his family and love of his country was evident to all who were honored to know him and loved him!  Memorial services will be held on July 25 at 12 p.m. at the VFW Post 8255 in Middleburg.

 MARY JANE HUTCHINS

Mrs. Mary Jane Hutchins, 69, of Starke passed away Friday, July 16, 2010 at her residence. She was born on January 6, 1941 in Cocoa, Fla., to the late John and Alice Mary Farnsworth Young and was a longtime area resident. She was a retired seamstress working in garment manufacturing and was a Baptist. She was preceded in death by her husband Paul Clifton Hutchins. Survivors are daughters, Karen Faye Kirby of Eucha, Okla.; Alice Mary Williams of Titusville, Fla.; son, Buddy J. Williams of Jay, Okla.; sisters, Bonnie Granger of Merritt Island; Harriet Bush of Austin, Texas; Janice Granger of Ga.; Martha June Branning of Cocoa, Fla.; five grandchildren; one great grandchild. KENNETH J. STOLL, JR.

Mr. Kenneth J. Stoll, Jr., 40, of Middleburg, Fla., passed away Thursday, July 15, 2010.  He was born on June 6, 1970 in Reading, Pa., to Kenneth and Barbara Stoll.  He moved to Middleburg from Alexandria, Va., in 1997. His proudest achievement was winning the gold medal at the Jr. Olympics in Buffalo, NY. He was preceded in death by his father and is survived by his wife Jenny; his mother, Barbara Stoll; son, Kenneth James Stoll III; daughter, Adrianna Renee Stoll; sisters, Christina Grimes and Stacey Dionne.  LAURA BISHOP CRABTREE

Mrs. Laura Bishop Crabtree, 69, of Middleburg, passed away Saturday, July 17, 2010, at the Orange Park Medical Center following a brief illness.  She was born in Willacoochee, Ga., on July 29, 1940 to the late Henry and Dora Martin. She is pre-deceased by her husband, Ken Crabtree, USN (Ret), and 3 siblings. Prior to moving back to Middleburg in November 2004 from Gray Court, SC, she had retired from the Michelin Tire Corporation as a Customer Service Representative. She was always very active in her community. Her memberships include, Red Hat Society, Weigel Senior Center, and Board member for the Clay Hill Community Association.  She is mourned by four loving sons, Bill Garrison (Kim) of Clay Hill; Michael Garrison (Michaelynn), Irmo, SC; Jim Garrison (Jo’D), St. Marys, GA; John Garrison (Renee), Gilbert, AZ; and her loving sister Barbara Ann Davis, Hepzibah, GA. Mrs. Crabtree was the matriarch of a large extended family that includes 25 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was always a warm and loving friend who lived by the motto, “Friends are family you pick for yourself.” Some of her close friends who will miss her dearly are Peggy Elias, Orange Park; Jim and Bev Suerth, Greer, SC; Marachel Young, Middleburg. GEORGE W. HACK

Mr. George W. Hack, 89, passed away Wednesday, July 14, 2010, in the Moosehaven Life Care Center located in Orange Park, Fla. He was born to George C. and Elfa Hack on September 13, 1920, in Marrow County, OH.  George enlisted in the Marine Corps on September 27, 1940. He was awarded a Good Conduct Service medal.  He was honorably discharged at the rank of Sergeant on November 22, 1946.   After his discharge, he continued in the Marine Corps Reserve until November 24, 1950.  George married the love of his life, Rose Dunnavant on October 30, 1943 in Washington, DC.  Graveside services will be held in Olive Branch Cemetery, Portsmouth, Virginia.  Two sons, Arthur C. Hack of Cotati, California and George Hack of Patterson Creek, West Virginia, survive him.  SHERI SUNDERLAND

Ms. Sheri Sunderland, 60, passed away Sunday, July 18, 2010, after a brief battle with cancer.  She was born on July 5, 1950 in Salt Lake City, UT to Ernest and Nancy Panjada.  She moved to Fleming Island from her hometown of Salt Lake City, UT in 2003 and although she was only a Florida resident for a short time, she loved living near the beach and feeling the sun on her face.  Her favorite Sunday would be sitting by the pool reading an entire book.  She loved to spend afternoons shopping, talking with friends or “running quick errands” with her daughter that turned into “well, since we’re out”, gone for hours, play time, just to be in the company of her best friend.  She loved her grandchildren more than words can express.  Every year she would use her sewing talent and make them the most beautiful Halloween costumes, leaving no details out.  She worked in the Banking industry for over 23 years.  During her career she excelled in Management and was often a mentor to others.  Her memory will live on through her son, Sean Sunderland (Boston, MA); daughter, Erica Raderstorf and Erica’s husband Dave (Fleming Island) her precious grandchildren, Taylor and Benjamin Raderstorf; sisters, Nina Davidson, Christy Zimmer (Jay); brother, Ernest Panjada (Terry); mother, Nancy Panjada and her many close friends and co-workers.  She was preceded in death by her father, Ernest Panjada.  The family would like to extend their personal thank you to all the Doctors and Nurses from Community Hospice.  A Memorial Service was held Tuesday, July 27 in the Broadus-Raines Chapel with Dr. Tim McDaniel officiating.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Sheri’s name to Community Hospice of NE Florida, 4266 Sunbeam Rd., Jacksonville, Fla., 32257.  Please sign the family’s online guestbook at www.broadusraines.com.  Cremation arrangements by Broadus-Raines Funeral Home, 501 Spring St., Green Cove Springs, Fla., (904) 284-4000.

STEVEN HART

In loving memory of Steven Hart, 47, who passed away in his home on Thursday, July 15, 2010. He will be missed dearly and whole heartedly.  ELSTER RATLIFF

Mr. Elster Ratliff, 82, of Green Cove Springs, Fla., passed away Sunday, July 18, 2010.  He was born on January 4, 1928, in Hellier, KY to Charles and Vernie Ratliff.  He was a U.S. Steel worker for 33 years and had worked for the United States Navy at Pearl Harbor, HI in 1943.  He moved to the local area 21 years ago from Ohio and was a member of Melrose Old Regular Baptist Church.  He loved motorcycles, fishing and cutting grass.  He will be dearly missed by his loving family and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents; by his loving wife, Sally; brothers, Roger Lee, James Robert and Jimmy; sisters, Delores, Eva and Janice Marie; granddaughter, Janet Lee and son-in-law, Jessie Meadows.  He is survived by his son, Donald Franklin Ratliff; daughter, Caroline Meadows; brothers, Roy Dale Ratliff and Charles Ray Ratliff; two granddaughters, a grandson and six great-grandchildren.  Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 22 at Little Ruth Old Regular Baptist Church with Elders Terry Fuller, Albert Hamilton, John Elkins and Glen Dixon officiating.  Visitation began at 5 p.m. Tuesday, July 20, at the church and will continue until service time Thursday.  Interment will follow in Little Ruth Cemetery.  Please sign the family’s online guestbook at www.broadusraines.com.  Arrangements by Broadus-Raines Funeral Home, 501 Spring St., Green Cove Springs, Fla., (904) 284-4000.

LORA JEAN WALL

Mrs. Lora Jean Wall age 49, of Keystone Heights passed away Saturday, July 17, 2010 at her residence following a long battle with Crohn’s Disease, and Cancer. She was born in Ohio on April 4, 1961 to Phillip and Inez Pearl Thompson Kontur and moved to Keystone Heights in 1988.  She was a homemaker and loved animals and reading. JEAN MISCHLER NOWLAND

Mrs. Jean Mischler Nowland age 86, of Keystone Heights passed away Tuesday, July 20, 2010, at Willey Manor Assisted Living Facility. She was born on April 27, 1924, in Elkton, Maryland to the late Henry Joseph and Helen Margaret Kennedy Mischler and moved to Keystone Heights 24 years ago from Wilmington, DE. She graduated from Alexis Dupont High School in Wilmington, was a retired bookkeeper and a member of the Park of the Palms. She was preceded in death by her husband Clarence L. Nowland. Survivors are daughter: Sandra N. Frankel (Lee) of Mountain Rest, SC; son: H. Thomas Nowland (Sharon) of Rumford, ME; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren.  BLANCHE T. DEEN

Mrs. Blanche T. Deen, 77, of Green Cove Springs, Fla., passed away Monday, July 19, 2010.  She was born on February 4, 1933, in Milan, Ga., to Hayward and Olivia Taylor.  She was a homemaker and a member of Faith Baptist Church in Green Cove Springs.  She loved to embroider and will be dearly missed by her loving family and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents; by her husband, David Deen and her sons, Joey Bryant and Bennie Joe Bryant.  Survivors include her sons, Gary (Lynn) Bryant, Danny (Sharon) Bryant, Roger Bryant and David (Cindy) Deen; daughters, Wanda (Rodney) Karl and Shirley (Bruce) Hendricks; brother, Warren Bobby (Becky) Taylor; 20 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; caregiver’s Leon Hendricks and her best friend, Barbara Hendricks.
