Mrs. Joan Ward, 54, of St. Augustine, Fla., passed away Monday July 19, 2010. She was born on October 9, 1955 in Jacksonville, Fla., to Wilford and Mary Driggers. She had been a hostess in the restaurant business and had worked for Corky Bell’s and Scuttlebutts. She enjoyed catering and entertaining her family and friends. She loved the beach, flowers and working with her brother Sam in stock car racing. She was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her husband, Virgil Ward; sons, Shawn (Crystal) Kight and Destin Kelley; daughter, Michele (Tony) Hendricks; brothers, Sam and Bob Driggers; sister, Darlene Barnard and grandchildren, River Kight, Jessica Pomar and Cheyanna Hendricks. Mr. Berlin Hilton, 91, of Green Cove Springs, Fla., passed away Monday, July 19, 2010. He was born to Clark and Matilda Hilton on March 4, 1919 in Hurley, Va. He was a believer in Jesus Christ and was of the Holiness Faith and attended Christian Fellowship Church. He served his country honorably in The U.S. Army and was a proud Veteran of WWII. He later worked as a coal miner in the mines of Virginia. He was very proud of the job he and his wife did raising five children. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son Michael Hilton. He is survived by his wife of 65 years Martha Hilton; children, Lynn (Gregg) Harvey, Deloris Smith, Sue (John) Newman and Doug Hilton; sister, Maxine Hilton; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-great-grandchildren. Ms. Delores Maxine Prepelica, age 73 of Columbus, Ohio, passed away peacefully July 18, 2010, after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer at her daughter’s residence in Middleburg. She was the only child born to Elmer and Elsie (Mauk) Colbert, in Williamsburg, Pa., born February 14, 1937. Preceded in death by her husband William John Prepelica and son Paul Robert, she is survived by her daughters Pamela Nichols (Columbus, OH), Elizabeth Smith (Middleburg, FL), Michelle Prepelica and honorary daughter Jennefer Frierson (Aurora, CO), granddaughters Jessica Smith, Amanda Nichols, first cousin Harriet Rogers ( Port Orange, FL ) and will be missed by her many friends and neighbors. Grave side services will be held at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery in Washington D.C. Mrs. Nellare I. McMaster, age 79, passed away July 18, 2010. She was born in Soperton, Ga., and had lived in Clay County, Fla., for 35 years. She worked in customer service at both Sears and Western Auto and was a member of Middleburg Church of God. Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Johnny A. McMaster, daughter Wendy Pettit, son Dannie Higginbotham, 3 brothers Henery L., Jr., James A. and Joseph M. Conner, 1 sister Betty Jean Moeller, 2 grandchildren Austin M. Pettit and Amy L. Spicer and 2 great-grandchildren Hailey and Tyler Spicer. Funeral service will be held Friday, July 23, at 2:00 PM at Middleburg Church of God, with Rev. Harry Douglas officiating. Interment will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park, Middleburg.

Garry Lee Blair, Sr., 65, of Jacksonville, FL passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 21, 2010. He was born on March 5, 1945 in Wichita, Kansas to parents Charles T. and Thelma Mae Welch. Mr. Blair was raised by his adoptive parents Robert and Erla Blair. He served his country honorably in the United States Navy and served during the Cuban conflict. He retired from the Duval County School Board after 30 years of service. He was a member of the Moose Lodge #2134 and was the commander and chief of the American Legion Post. He also was the president of the Cathedral Towers Retirement Home. Mr. Blair enjoyed fishing, camping but was best known for helping others. He was an avid volunteer and wanted to be remembered for all of his good deeds. He was always ready to help the needy. He will always be remembered as a loving father and grandfather. He is survived by his loving family who will miss him dearly, son Garry Lee Blair, Jr.; daughters, Kimberly M. Ratliff and Teresa L. Miller; brothers, Donald, Elmer and Bobby Welch; sister, Beverly Welch; grandchildren, Crystal, Tommy, Jr., James, Joshua, Kayla, Kirsten and David Michael; great-grandchildren, Randall, Tommy, III and Joshua, Jr.; and many nieces and nephews. One of Mr. Blair’s last wishes was for his family and friends to look at his dying as a time of personal growth and forgiveness for everyone. She had lived and retired in Keystone Heights where she was a member of the St. William Catholic Church and an active member and past officer of the St. William’s Ladies Guild. Mr. Sherrell was a retired truck driver for Transcon Freight Line and was a World War II Veteran, serving in the United States Navy. He was a member of the VFW Post 1988 in Green Cove Springs, FL. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and taking care of his lawn on his John Deere tractor. He will be dearly missed by his loving family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife, Nelda M. Sherrell; son, Douglas G. Sherrell; daughters, Debbie N. Presley (Terry), Brenda F. Sherrell, Beverly A. John Henry Christian Pace, Jr. passed away July 5, 2010 at his home on Keauhou Bay in Kailua Kona, Hawaii. He was born Oct. 2, 1917 in Pensacola, FL the son of John and Velma Bene Pace of Jacksonville, FL. His family was comprised of his loving wife of 68 years, Gussie Beall, 8 children, John H. Pace, III and Augusta (Mike) Leech of FL, Susan Pace, and Tom Pace of HI, Annie (Dave) Fortunato and Elizabeth (Steve) Sorenson of TX, Hardy Pace of AZ, and Christian Bene Pace (deceased), 13 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He was a resident of Orange Park, Florida for over 50 years. He attended Princeton, Amherst and Oxford Universities. He was a WWII veteran in the U.S.Army 101st infantry. An avid conservationist and preservationist, he believed natural resources must be protected and used wisely and beneficially. With this goal, he was the founder and member of the First Air Purification committee of Northeast Florida, member of Florida Forestry Assoc, Florida Cattlemen’s Assoc, Florida Farm Bureau, and Clay County Development Authority. Mr. Pace developed the family farm, Moccasin Slough, into Pace Island and it was the first “Quality” development in the state of Florida. He was the Recipient of the “Outstanding Conservation Award” in 1964. Business acumen involved association with many large national and international companies and included businesses in chemical, banking, cattle ranching, sawmilling, financing, investing, real estate, and dendrology. He was the founder of Cardinal Investment Co., founder of Southern Industrial Bank, Director of Atlantic National Bank, First Union Bank, First Chairman of the Orange Park Bank, and Director of Atlantic Banks of Florida. Founder of Allied Timber Co, Nelio Chemical Co. Argyle Forest, Argyle Southern, Director of Consolidated Financial, Dixie Lime and Stone, Lehigh Portland Cement, Rosario Resources, Consolidated Tomoka Land, Gulfstream Land, New York Honduras, Rosario Company, Alamo Petroleum, Baker Fentress, Gulf Mortgage, and Westjax Development, and member of the Jacksonville Council of 100 and American Bankers Association. He was a generous man, giving his time, talent, and tithes abundantly: Founder and Trustee of Clay Memorial Hospital Board ( 30 years), Founder and Trustee of Baptist Hospital, Board member of Methodist Hospital Foundation, Boy Scout Council, and Baptist Home for Children.
He attributed his successful life to a wonderful wife who kept him going and put him first. He also credited religion, perseverance, and education as forces that shaped his life. , Sunday, July 25, 2010, at his residence in Middleburg, Florida. Charles dedicated his life to the service and call of God. He began his ministry with his brother, James and sister, Louise sixty-one years ago. He held credentials with The Assemblies of God since 1948, receiving his “Honor of Recognition” plaque for 50 years of ordination with The Assemblies of God on May 9, 2001. Survivors include, his wife, Dorothy M. Raley; one daughter deceased in infancy, Sharon Rose; sons, Rev. David Raley (Beverly), Rev. Mason Raley (Dianna) and Rev.
