 MARIE PLOURDE

Mrs. Marie Plourde, 68, of Green Cove Springs, Fla., passed away Tuesday, October 28, 2008.  She was born on May 26, 1940, in Barnstable, Mass., to Lester and Viola Lee.  She was a homemaker and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Fleming Island, Fla.  She was an avid golfer and had an incredible 5 “hole-in-ones”.  She was a member of the USGA, the Magnolia Point Ladies Golf Assoc., the Jacksonville Women’s Golf Assoc. and when she wasn’t golfing; she enjoyed sewing and being with her loving family and friends.  She is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Donald J. Plourde; children, Cheryl Plourde of Berlin, Conn.; Lisa Thomas of LaCrosse, Wis.; Cathy Plourde of Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.; and Kendra Peck (Scott) of Fleming Island; brother, Russell Lee of Osterville, Mass.; and eight grandchildren.  A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Friday, October 31 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Donal Sullivan as Celebrant.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name may be made to the Food Pantry of Green Cove Springs, P.O. BRIAN A. DORNBUSCH

Mr. Brian A. Dornbusch, 33, of Orlando, Fla., passed away Monday, October 27, 2008. He was born on December 22, 1974, in Arlington, Ill., and moved to Green Cove Springs in 1983, and then to Orlando after graduating Clay High School in 1993. He earned two Bachelor’s degrees and a Master’s degree from The University of Central Florida. He was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity and was of the Protestant faith. After graduation, he worked for the university in grant procurement. He is survived by his loving mother, Audrey Dornbusch and brother, Brandon (Dana) Dornbusch. Funeral services were held in the Broadus-Raines Chapel Saturday, November 1 officiated by Minister Rico Brown. Interment followed in Hickory Grove Cemetery. J.B. THOMAS

Mr. J.B. Thomas, 90, of Green Cove Springs, Fla., passed away Wednesday, October 29, 2008.  He was born on February 8, 1918, in Belmore, Fla., to Lacy and Minnie Thomas.  He was a Word War II Veteran, serving his country in the United States Army and retired from the Clay County Road Department as a Supervisor after 41 years of service.  He loved gardening and fishing and will be dearly missed by his loving family and friends.  Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years, Anna Thomas; children, Caron Faye Doan (Tom), Beverly Ann Costea, James Allen Fautt (Patricia), Sarah Carla Lyon (Parker) and Julie Ann Shutters (Michael); grandchildren, Thomas Christopher Doan (Jessica), Cassandra Yvonne Sequina, Stacy Alan Sharp (Robin), Melissa Alexandria Thomas, Lawson Lyon, Amanda Lyon, Alec Shutters, Madison Shutters and James Allen Fautt, Jr. and seven great-grandchildren.  Funeral services were held Sunday, November 2 in the Broadus-Raines Chapel with Tom Doan officiating.  Interment followed in Penney Farms Cemetery.  Please sign the family’s online register book at www.broadusraines.com.  Arrangements by Broadus-Raines Funeral Home (904) 284-4000.

SHIRLEY GLOVER TAYLOR

Mrs. Shirley Glover Taylor, 73, of Green Cove Springs, Fla., passed away Wednesday, October 29, 2008, at her home. Born in Penney Farms, Fla., she had resided in the Clay County area her entire lifetime.  Of the Baptist faith and a member of the Hickory Grove Baptist Church, She served the Lord starting at a young age as pianist, organist, choir member, Sunday school teacher, and most importantly as a wife of a Baptist Minister.  Her entire life was spent serving the Lord, Jesus Christ.  Retired from Clay County Clerk’s office, she was currently a member of the Red Hat Society and Japonica Garden Club.  She was predeceased by her husband, Reverend Hugh C. Taylor; her parents, William (Bill) and Juanita Glover; and her sister, Nelle Bain. She is survived by her children, Tina Landry (Ramsey) of Gulf Breeze Fla.; her son, Steven Taylor (Michelle) of Green Cove Springs; step daughters, Linda Hester (Keith); Brenda Lowe (Johnny) both of Gray, Ga. Survived also by her cherished grandchildren, Heather Jones of Fort Myers, Fla.; Cody and Carlee Taylor of Green Cove Springs; step grandchildren, Lamar; Brandi; Amber; Nikki; and Charley of Gray, Ga.; and many step great grandchildren.  Funeral services were held at Hickory Grove Baptist Church on Tuesday, November 4, officiated by the Rev.  ELEANOR “ABBEY” AKERS

Mrs. Eleanor “Abbey” Akers, 85, of Green Cove Springs, Fla., passed away Saturday, November 1, 2008.  She was born on January 23, 1923, in Merchantville, NJ to Joseph and Josephine Akers.  She was a telephone operator for Bell Telephone in Camden, NJ.  She moved to Green Cove Springs and worked as a telephone operator at the Navy Fleet Reserve Base. She was a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts, loved flowers, and was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.  She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Josephine; sons, John William Akers and Robert E. Akers; and a sister, Doris Joslen; she is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Jerald D.T. Akers Sr; son, Jerald T. STEPHEN J. LATO

Mr. Stephen J. Lato, 33 passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, October 30, 2008. He had courageously battled cancer for a year while remaining a loving husband, father, son and brother. He was a graduate of Middleburg High School, and has spent the last five years working for the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office as a corrections officer.  He leaves behind his wife of 11 years, Summer; three children, Savannah; Spencer; and Shane. He is also survived by his parents Bobby and Debbie Lato; a brother Patrick, his wife Elise; two nieces Alexis and Emma; and many other extended family members and friends.  Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 5 at St. Luke’s Catholic Church, 1606 Blanding Blvd, Middleburg with Father Edward Rooney officiating. Burial followed in Holly Hill Memorial Park.

 ROGER ALFONSO TERESI

Mr. Roger Alfonso Teresi, 38, passed away Friday, October 24, 2008. Survivors include his parents Philip and Shirley Teresi; children Izayah and Jasmin; Brothers Anthony; Phil; Philip; Frank; and Jimmy; sisters, Janet; Virginia; Phyllis; Edna; Tina; and Shirley; and a host of other relatives and friends.  A funeral mass was held on Friday, October 31 in the chapel of Helm Funeral Home, 1811 Idlewild Avenue. Interment followed in Hickory Grove Cemetery.  He was known by all of his friends and family for his laughter, jokes, and the fact that he would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it.  Talking about him wouldn't be complete without mentioning some of his favorite sayings like"Woo Woooo", "Yo Kid", "Yo Son", and "Zippa Head".  ROSE SIGNORELLI ADAMS

Mrs. Rose Signorelli Adams passed away Wednesday, October 29, 2008, in the Moosehaven Life Care Center at the age of 82. He was born to Michael Ferro and Josephine Curci Ferro in Brooklyn, NY on January 19, 1926. She and her husband, Augie came to Moosehaven on July 9, 1996, where she resided for 12 years.  Augie preceded her in death on January 5, 2001. She later married, Moosehaven resident, Richard “Toby” Adams on February 9, 2003.  She is survived by her son, Jerry Signorelli; daughter, Barbara Weber and, grandchildren, Jay; Kelly; Jared; Lauren and Kayleigh; also two Great grandchildren, Addison and Brody.  A Memorial Service will be held Friday, November 7, 2008 at 2 p.m. followed with interment in the Moosehaven Mausoleum.  Please sign the family’s online register book at www.broadusraines.com.  Cremation arrangements by Broadus-Raines Funeral Home (904) 284-4000.

 TARA L. CHANNELL

Mrs. Tara L. Channell, 27, passed away on Thursday, October 30, 2008. She was born and resided in Orange Park, Fla., was the owner of Canallis Pizza and a member of Celebration Church. She is survived by her husband, Shannon Channell; three sons, Bradley A. Strange; Dylan T.H. Channell; and Logan C. Channell; maternal parents, Timothy Irish and Beverly Staklinski; step-parents, Robert Staklinski and Wynona Irish; grandparents, Conrad and Myrna Irish; Joan and Andy Eursery; brothers, Chris Duren and Andrew Staklinski; sisters, Lacey (Blane) Hay and Brandi Duren; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends. Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 5 in First Church of God, 3965 Old Jennings Road, Middleburg, Fla., with Pastor Bruce Seger officiating. Burial followed in Holly Hill Memorial Park. M. ATWOOD TURNER     

Mr. M. ATWOOD TURNER, 94, passed away at The Terrance at Fleming Island, in Orange Park on Monday November 3, 2008, after a long illness.  He was born in Memphis, Tennessee, on January 23, 1914.  His family moved from Memphis to Ocala, Fla., when he was three years old and he grew up in Ocala, where he excelled in all sports, but particularly swimming, setting five state high school swimming records which he held for many years.  He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps, with the 349th Airdrome Squadron in Burma, during Word War II.  Following the end of the war, he and his lifelong business partner, George Leseman, founded Jacksonville Wholesale Floral Company and they remained in business together until their retirement in 1985.  He was married to Kathleen (Kay) McKay on September 30, 1939, and they shared a lifetime together.  Kay passed away on October 1, 2006, just one day following their 67th wedding anniversary.  He is survived by three children,  his daughter, Linda Turner Kelly (Ed) of Orange Park; his sons, Edwin Turner (Evey) of Bradenton, Fla.; and Stephen Turner of Atlantic Beach, Fla.  He is also survived by five grandchildren, Michael Kelly; Kathleen Kelly Marshall; Daniel Wagner; Joey Turner and Carolyn Turner; and by four great-grandchildren, Ayla Kelly; Kaitlin Marshall; Madison Wagner and Meredith Lane Wagner.  He was blessed with over 94 years of life and, in turn, was a blessing to all those who knew and loved him.  He will be missed by his family for his wisdom, for his good humor and for his abiding sense of personal honor.  His life will be celebrated and remembered in a memorial service on Friday, November 7, at 11 a.m. at Ortega United Methodist Church, 4807 Roosevelt Boulevard, Jacksonville, Fla., 32210.  Flowers are welcome and appreciated, but memorials may be made in his honor to:  Ortega United Methodist Church, at the above address, or to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, Fla., 32257.  Please sign the family’s online register book at www.broadusraines.com.  Arrangements by Broadus-Raines Funeral Home (904) 284-4000.
